The challenges to nature
The influence of human activities on the environment
Human activities, whether industrial, agricultural or other, carried out on the ground, can potentially impact water resources. Hydrogeologists are experts specializing in groundwater management. Their essential role is to monitor the entire ecosystem that influences the formation of natural mineral water.
Thus, at the Vergèze site, the water resources team, jointly with hydrogeologists, is responsible for ensuring the management and preservation of mineral water resources throughout the year. Moreover, in collaboration with our partners (e.g.: local farmers), our teams closely monitor water resource protection and ensure the strict application of environmentally-friendly farming practices (organic farming certification, the job of a agri-environmental measures) and the implementation of garrigue management and conservation tools (Single Management Plan and Real Environmental Obligation).
Adapting to climate change
Climatic variations such as periods of drought or heavy rains represent challenges for the preservation of water resources. PERRIER implements numerous measures to protect the ecosystem surrounding our springs, working both independently and in close collaboration with all stakeholders present in the territory. These actions have the dual objective of preserving the territory in which we operate and sustainably managing this natural mineral water resource.
Protecting these resources constitutes an ongoing challenge that requires constant vigilance and adaptation to climate change. This involves careful monitoring, in-depth studies, continuous dialogue with stakeholders and the implementation of concrete actions. We are continuously seeking to expand our knowledge of the aquifers we exploit in order to understand their development in the face of climate change and to adapt our practices accordingly.
For example, the analysis of pollen and nectar collected through beeswax allows us to monitor environmental and soil quality, providing a temporal indicator of groundwater quality. These studies have inspired us to undertake a number of projects aimed at protecting the natural environment surrounding our springs by preventing environmental risks from human and industrial activities, while also adapting to natural changes.
Activities contributing to the protection of water resources
We are carrying out a number of projects to protect our resources from human and industrial activities. In addition to activities aimed at preserving biodiversity and protecting our territory, we go even further in the development of external local projects that have an impact on water. This involves very concrete and particularly useful work. We have therefore applied to carry out waterproofing work on an infiltration basin near the A9 freeway, close to the garrigues, conducted studies into the risk of discharging private swimming pool effluent into the environment, and initiated regular patrols and checks to prevent the risk of fires in the garrigue.
