Where does PERRIER natural mineral water come from? How are the sources preserved?

PERRIER natural mineral water originates in Vergèze, in the Gard department – a region as unique as the water itself. Beneath the surface, deep within the secret depths of the Garrigues massif and the vast Vistrenque plain, ancient limestone rocks shape this exceptional water. Rainwater embarks on an extraordinary journey, seeping through these rocks and mineralising along the way, ultimately emerging as natural mineral water.

PERRIER is committed to responsibly managing the extracted water, under the supervision of the authorities: every cubic metre of water collected is measured and declared. At PERRIER, we implement projects to protect and sustain these sources, including the preservation of aquatic environments and surrounding biodiversity, while also optimising our water consumption. Our goal is ensuring a continuous supply of its high-quality water, both now and for future generations.

Along this journey, the water absorbs unique minerals from the soil and rocks it passes through. The result is that every drop of PERRIER natural mineral water is as distinctive as its origin. This perfect combination of time and terroir is what makes each sip of PERRIER natural mineral water exceptional.

PERRIER natural mineral water has always been perfectly safe to drink and it’s also unique in taste and mineral content. We ensure that it meets the highest standards by working closely with local and national authorities. We strictly adhere to both local and international health regulations, guaranteeing impeccable quality in every bottle we produce.

QUALITY OF OUR NATURAL MINERAL WATER AND PRODUCTS

How does PERRIER ensure the quality and safety of its natural mineral water?
 

Each day, our experts conduct over 700 tests to ensure that every bottle of PERRIER is perfectly safe to drink. To maintain the quality of our natural mineral water, we carefully protect the reception area around the sources, known as the “impluvium”. Everything is interconnected: quality of our water depends on the surrounding environment.

Our hydrogeologists and experts closely monitor the surrounding environment to promote environmentally friendly agricultural practices. To support this, we have promoted the implementation of a zero-pesticide policy to protect biodiversity, agricultural land, and consequently, the water itself.

We follow rigorous quality procedures under the supervision of the relevant authorities. These quality procedures include a stringent cleaning program for the bottling lines and 700 daily analyses on various parameters. We have also strengthened our controls as part of our transformation plan in Vergèze. The results of our analyses are continuously shared with the authorities, who regularly test our water at the source and in the bottles to ensure it meets all regulatory requirements. Its mineral composition is in accordance with what is stated on the label. Thanks to these measures, you can enjoy every sip of PERRIER with complete confidence.

How do you commit to preserving the sources and the natural mineral water PERRIER?

We are dedicated to implementing numerous initiatives to protect the sources and preserve biodiversity. We continuously invest in addressing the challenges related to the effects of the intensity of human activity and climate change to ensure that our water remains as unique and refreshing as ever.

In nature, everything is interconnected: to preserve our natural mineral water, it is crucial to protect the biodiversity in the territory where it originates. That is why we place great importance on safeguarding local wildlife and flora. Since 2020, we have planted 10,000 trees and hedges to protect the sources that gives life to PERRIER mineral water.

Beyond our efforts to protect the sources, their environment, and ensure their long-term health, at PERRIER we are committed to regenerating water cycles in the region, using water responsibly, and maintaining its balanced ecosystem. That is why we support projects that restore more water to nature than we use in our operations. These initiatives focus on ensuring the effective functioning of wetlands, restoring natural habitats with a positive impact on biodiversity, and include activities such as river rewilding, pond creation, canal cleaning, and limiting salinisation. This approach helps to regenerate the ecosystem, improve water quality, and ensure that the river remains a healthy and vibrant environment. In 2024, we signed a river rewilding project for the Rhôny River, and we aim to achieve independent certification from the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) for our Vergèze site by 2025. In short, this is our way of supporting the natural world so that everything can continue to thrive.

How Does PERRIER reduce its CO2 Emissions?

At PERRIER, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint:
- We use only renewable electricity for our factory.
- Our packaging is 100% recyclable, and by 2025, all our bottles will contain at least 50% recycled PET* (*excluding caps, plastic film, and labels).
- We favour alternative transport methods to road transport with lower impacts, such as our own electric train, which reduces our CO2 emissions by 2,500 tons per year.

At PERRIER, we know that every format has its fans! That’s why we strive to ensure that all our formats are available in stores. We constantly adjust our stock levels and deliveries to meet demand and optimise our production. All PERRIER formats are currently produced at our factory in Vergèze. In line with our commitment to quality, rest assured that we do everything possible to keep your favourite PERRIER on the shelves.
