SUSTAINABLY MANAGING OUR WATER RESOURCES
When drawing water from the PERRIER® source, we are taking care to maintain its natural replenishment to ensure its continued availability, both today and in the future. This approach is accompanied by ongoing surveys to monitor the water table, whilst taking the effects of global warming into account.
We are working to get our Vergèze plant CERTIFIED ALLIANCE FOR WATER STEWARDSHIP IN 2025.
The AWS Standard is the first, comprehensive global standard for measuring responsible water stewardship across environmental, economic, and social criteria: a solid proof of our commitment to preserve water resources.
Finally, we are also collaborating with some local authorities as Syndicat des Nappes Vistrenque et Costières, to safeguard the quantity and quality of the region’s water: A CONTINUOUS COLLABORATIVE PROCESS to contribute safeguard the region’s water resources.
THE QUALITY OF OUR WATER STARTS WITH THE QUALITY OF THE LIVING SOILS…
Everything in nature is intertwined: if we are to preserve PERRIER® natural mineral water, which is located in the groundwater aquifer, it is vital that we protect the surrounding lands that form the catchment area known as the “impluvium”.
The impluvium for the PERRIER® source primarily consists of vegetation that is typical to the south of France, the “Garrigue” scrubland, surrounded by villages and agricultural lands.
Preserving the impluvium’s natural areas has consequently been a fundamental part of our work. WE HAVE BEEN PLANTING 10.000 TREES SINCE 2020, that helps water infiltration into the soils. We are going one step further by signing the first ORE* in partnership with an expert organization, the Natural Areas Conservatory of Languedoc Roussillon (CEN), to protect 112 hectares of forests on the territory.
By preserving the natural lands, we also need to consider the living ecosystems. Our experts have measured the biodiversity of the territory, following the guidance of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and their STAR indicator: The territory near PERRIER® source hosts nearly 1000 FLORA SPECIES, AND MORE THAN 500 SPECIES OF MAMMALS, BIRDS AND SMALL INSECTS!
We have built an external committee of local third parties, to implement a concrete local plan to support local biodiversity. So far through the creation of five pounds, nesting boxes and birds’ shelters... and many initiatives to come, that will contribute to the preservation of local species in the future!
OVER 300 HECTARES OF LAND NOW CERTIFIED « ORGANIC» 🌱
We also actively support a zero-pesticide policy across the farmlands and villages located within the impluvium. Since 1994, we have been working together with the region’s farmers to help them make the transition to organic farming and adopt sustainable practices, which means, no use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Today, 90 percent of the farmland, OVER 300 HECTARES, NEAR THE PERRIER® SOURCE IS CERTIFIED ORGANIC.
Our historical partnership with the “Héraclès” wine-growing cooperative is a prime example of this approach. By sustainably managing their vines and using natural preventive treatments, the cooperative is now able to produce 50,000 hectolitres of organic wine each year, making it France’s largest organic wine producer.
Did you know that bees can represent a key ally in monitoring environment quality? That’s why, we are collaborating with organic beekeepers, SETTING MORE THAN 20 HIVES IN OUR LANDS to regularly analyze pollen gathered by bees.

AIR
ON A JOURNEY TO REDUCE OUR CARBON EMISSIONS ACROSS OUR ENTIRE VALUE CHAIN.
At PERRIER, we have been working for years on the improvement of our carbon footprint. We will continue doing so by acting to further reduce our emissions at every stage of our product's life: management of our sources and local territories, packaging design, recycling, production and transport.

INCREASE THE SHARE OF RECYCLED PLASTIC ♻️ IN OUR PACKAGING
We are offering a different range of packaging and formats, to allow our consumers to enjoy their PERRIER® at any time of the day. ALL THOSE PACKAGING ARE RECYCLABLE.
To limit their impact, we are gradually replacing virgin material with recycled material in all our packaging. A dedicated focus is done on our plastic range, through the integration of recycled PET.
WHAT IS RECYCLED PLASTIC (PET)?
It boasts the same properties as virgin PET: lightweight, strong and providing an outstanding protective barrier for the water. The difference is, that it has already been used for something else prior to being sorted, collected and then recycled into new reusable plastic. Consequently, it has a lower carbon footprint that virgin PET.
Our goal is for all of our bottles to be made with 50% recycled PET by 2025.
We’re also taking the same approach for our plastic overwrap, as most of them currently include 50% recycled material.
TOWARDS MORE INNOVATIVE SOLUTION
We are committed in the search of sustainable innovations that could reinvent packaging. To do so, we are sourcing new creative solutions, drawing on the expertise of external stakeholders and supporting start-ups that could be game changers in addressing this challenge.
Since April 2019, PERRIER® has joined a global consortium (along with L’Oréal, Suntory Beverage & Food Europe and PepsiCo) SUPPORTING THE FRENCH GREEN-TECH COMPANY CARBIOS, in the development of an innovative enzymatic recycling solution. With this ground-breaking recycling solution, we will ensure that any type of plastic can be recycled and safely reused again and again, remaining part of the circular economy and does not become waste or pollution.
In January 2020, we announced the launch of our NEXT PACKAGING MOVEMENT initiative during the ChangeNow Summit. The aim of this international collaboration program, which involves start-ups and social entrepreneurs, was to explore innovative and sustainable packaging solutions. Following an international call for projects, we selected 3 winning projects that took advantage of our technical and financial support to develop their solutions.
