Preservation and restoration of biodiversity

Protection of the territory’s fauna and flora

A biological inventory conducted in the French department of Gard in 2020 revealed a concentration of remarkable species (197 species listed and inventoried). This is a natural treasure that PERRIER is also committed to preserving through its actions. Consequently, a total of 10,000 trees and hedges have been planted since 2020, helping to increase the site’s biodiversity and infiltrate water into the soil. This action was extended with the signature of the first Real Environmental Obligation (Obligation Réelle Environnementale - ORE) in partnership with an expert organization, the Languedoc Roussillon Nature Conservatory (Conservatoire d’Espaces Naturels du Languedoc Roussillon - CEN), to protect 112 hectares of forest in the area.

In addition to protecting the flora, we must also preserve the fauna; our experts measured the biodiversity of the territory, following the advice of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and their STAR indicator: The area near the PERRIER spring is home to almost 1,000 species of flora, and more than 500 species of mammals, birds and small insects. We have set up an external committee made up of local third parties, to implement a concrete local plan aimed at supporting local biodiversity. To date, this has involved the creation of five bird sanctuaries, nesting boxes and shelters for birds, 20 beehives, with many more initiatives planned that will contribute to the preservation of local species in the future.

Certified organic land thanks to a zero-pesticide policy on the territory.

A zero-pesticide policy has been in place for many years on farmland and in villages located in the impluvium, which is why PERRIER supports and promotes organic farming, particularly in the wine-growing sector (partnership with the “Héraclès” cooperative winery). We support farmers to reduce and eliminate the use of pesticides by finding organic solutions. These good practices have made the cooperative into the largest organic winery in France, which stores 80,000 hectolitres of organic Vins de Pays. Since implementing these measures, 90% of our farmland (over 600 hectares) has been certified organic.
